Our second Orange Dodgeball Project piece comes from an artist who asked to remain anonymous but is known in West Michigan.

They titled the piece Hope.

This is the write-up they gave us, and we couldn’t have said it better.

My name does not matter; the mission does.

Almost none of us walk through life untouched by cancer. Whether carrying a personal diagnosis or sitting beside someone we love while they endure it, the weight is heavy, pervasive, and consuming. In this piece, that reality is held in the black: the silence, the fear, and the shadow cancer casts across so many lives.

Hearing Tim’s story and watching the relentless momentum of Team Dodgeball shifted something for me. The Orange Dodgeball is not merely an object; it is an active, kinetic force. It refuses to let the dark have the final word.

Hope captures that precise threshold: the moment vibrant, unapologetic orange breaks through the heavy black. Looking down directly into the piece, that circle of orange functions like an eclipse in reverse: not darkness covering the sun, but light burning its way out from beneath the shadow. It is the beginning of light puncturing the surface; an insistence that community, grit, and joy can fracture even the darkest circumstances. The ball is not waiting on the sidelines; it is pushing its way forward, carrying hope into spaces that need it most.

September carries its own weight: blood cancers, pediatric cancers, and it demands just as much noise, just as much fire, and just as much unapologetic energy.

Orange isn't subtle. It doesn't ask politely to be seen; it commands the room. It is the color of warmth, ignition, and defiance.

Look past the hands that made this. Look at what Tim, Team Dodgeball, and everyone carrying this cause are building together: a direct hit against despair.

Everyone knows October is pink. Soon, everyone will know September is orange.
